Imphal, June 15 2015 :
Local clubs, meira paibi organizations and other pressure groups have accelerated ILP movement and mobilization began from Sunday in the hope to pressurize the State Government to take its decisive action towards implementation of Inner Line Permit System (ILP) in Manipur.
One of the influential women's organizations, Iramdam Kanba Apunba Lup (IKAL) wants the Government to take a final decision on the implementation of ILP in the upcoming State Assembly session scheduled to begin on June 26 .
"The Manipur Regulation of Visitors, Tenants, and Migrant Workers Bill, 2015" recently passed by the State Legislative Assembly specifies total negative response towards the interests of the indigenous people, IKAL president Wahengbam Luwangleima told Hueiyen Lanpao on Monday.
Luwangleima pointed out that the total population of Manipur as per the 2011 Census is nearly 28 lakh and according to data available with IKAL the population in 2014 was increased to 35 lakh.
Out of that the Meiteis constitute 10 lakh and the tribals 6 lakh and the rest are non-locals.
She underlined the need for checking the demographic imbalances by introducing ILPS at the soonest time possible.
She said the non-local population is exploding and its impact on the indigenous people of the State is very serious.
Luwangleima further said, "The stage has been set for making the ILP movement more vigorous.
We've started mobilization from Sunday.
ILP can be implemented within one year's time.
Everybody should play the role towards this end" .
