State Govt to fete CWG participants on Aug 12

The sportspersons of Manipur who participated in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2014 will be given a warm reception by the state government at a function to be held at Indoor Stadium of Khuman Lampak Sports Complex on August 12 at 11 am.
As announced earlier, the state government would provide a cash reward of Rs.2 lakhs each to all participants.
This would be addition to the cash incentive to be given to the medal winners.
According to official sources, the state government will present a cash award of Rs.15 lakh to Sanjita Khumukcham of Umathel Awang Leikai, who snatched the first Gold medal for India in weightlifting (48-kg).Rs.10 lakhs each will be given to players who earned Silver medals, including Hockey players of India team Kadangbam Kothajit of Khurai Lairikyengbam Leikai and Kangujam Chinglensana of Bashikhong, Imphal
Those who got Silver medals in the Glasgow Games are Mirabai Chanu Saikhom from Kabowakching (weightlifting, 48 kg), Susila Likmabam of Heingang Mayai Leikai (Judo, 48 kg), Laishram Sarita of Mayang Imphal (Boxing, 57-60 kg), and Laishram Devendro from Yurembam (Boxing, 49 kg).
Kothajit and Chinglensana particpipated in the India team which grasped the Runners up title.
Judo player, Kalpana from Kakwa Naorem Laikei will also be handed over a sum of Rs.8 lakhs, according to the report.
Players who are to be given Rs.2 lakhs as encouragement for their participation in the Commonwealth Games are Sunibala Huidrom from Mayang Imphal (Judo), Jina Devi Chongtham from mayang Imphal (Judo), Anuradha Thokchom from Basikhong (Hockey), Pukhrambam Susila of Thangmeiband (Hockey), Sunita Yanglem (cycling) and Ramananda Kongrailatpam from Chingmeirong (diving).
The felicitation programme will be organized by the state Youth Affairs and Sports department of Manipur.
India contingent players in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2014 will be received at a function to be organized jointly by YAS department, Govt of India, Ministry of Skill Dev.
and Sports Authority of India in Bigyan Bhavan in New Delhi tomorrow.
It may be mentioned that India team got 64 medals including 15 Gold, 30 Silver and 19 Bronze medals during the Games.
The sportspersons of Manipur who are now camping in New Delhi to take part in the Vigyan Bhavan reception will arrive here on August 10 .
