Vehicles carrying sports cargo will be blocked if road passing NSU is not repaired: Local orgs warn

Kounu Leima Chanura Lup has denounced the inaction of the State Government to repair the Senjam Chirang-Senjam Khunou road passing National Sports University and construct a market on the land dedicated by the locals while warning to block all university cargo passing the said road stretch.
Staging a sit in protest at Senjam Chirang community hall, Imphal West district, Kounu Leima Chanura Lup maintained that the Chief Minister, during his visit to inspect the construction of NSU at Haraothel, assured to initiate the road repairing work and the market construction as the top priority.
However, no positive actions have been taken up till date, the Lup asserted.
Speaking at the sideline of the protest, secretary of the Lup Heikham Ambrapati narrated that the Chief Minister visited the area to review the construction of the varsity on June 30, 2017 .
She reiterated that the Chief Minister has failed to fulfil any of the promises adding that monsoon will be arriving soon and by then the construction will not be possible.
The Lup's secretary further warned to block the passage of any vehicles carrying sports materials or any materials associated with the university if the said road stretch is not revamped at the earliest.
On the other hand, a team of National Sports University Haraothel Protection Committee (NSUHPC) led by its working chairman R Ranjan, Senjam Khunou and Senjam Chirang Development Organisation Imphal West led by its joint secretary W Jotin, Mayanglanjing Zilla Parishad member Keisham Sohodev, Phumlou GP Pradhan Maisnam Manikchand, Phumlou GP former Pradhan Ranjan and media persons examined the ongoing construction works at the varsity.
The surrounding areas namely Senjam Khunou and Senjam Chirang dedicated a total of 185 acres of land while Kourtuk dedicated 140 acres of land for the construction of the National Sports University.
NSUHPC chairman Ranjan has urged the agency handling the construction work to complete the project within the stipulated time while demanding the authority concerned to begin the academic session of the varsity from 2020 onwards.
He further maintained that a MoU should be inked between NSUHPC and the construction agency.
Meanwhile, Senjam Khunou and Senjam Chirang Joint Development Organisation has demanded that the agency should inform the organisation on any matters concerning the construction work.
The organisation has raised concern on shifting the construction agency from Hindustan Steel Work Construction Pvt Ltd to Simplex Project Ltd adding that the latter is a company which has been lagging behind in taking up other construction work in the State.
