Imphal, January 14, 2012:
A Recitation meet (Sheireng Sheidinnaba) based on Puya Mei Thaba organised by the Patriotic Writers' Forum, Manipur was held today at the Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul Imphal.
President of the forum Shagolshem Indrakumar and Vice President of International Observation Committee on Puya Mei Thaba and MNF Mutua Bahadur graced the function as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary of the Forum, Rakesh Naorem said that the differences in the findings about the history of the state often become a major hurdle in the development of language and scripts.
Observing the Puya Mei Thaba incident by the people of today's generation is like remembering the forefathers.
It is high time for the people of the state to be aware about the mixed cultures, traditions and religious views of the Kanglei society.
Puyas are the main source to study and identify the past history and civilisation of the state and people need to record the present civilisation into books for future information.
He also urged the writers in the state to take active role in changing the mixed cultures and traditions.
It is very important for the people of the state to develop the Manipuri language and Meetei Mayek.
In this connection, some writers' associations have already pressed the government to set up a separate directorate for Manipuri language.
Till now the government is not taking the issue seriously.
While urging the people to name their sons, daughters and public places in Manipuri language as a step to develop the language, he also expressed the need to refine the school textbooks prescribed by the government and filter the mixed alien languages to give the true colour of Manipuri language.
The function was participated by 19 writers who presented poems based on Puya Mei Thaba.
