New Delhi, September 05, 2009:
The Director General of Police (DGP) of Manipur, Y Joykumar has clarified that neither the state Chief Secretary nor the state DGP has received any communication from the Union Home Secretary or any official of the Ministry of Home Affairs giving directions to rein in Manipur police commandos.
Clarifying that no communication was received from the Centre on the subject matter by the state government, the DGP stated that whoever has given this information to the press appears to have done so with mischievous motive of misleading the general public and demoralising the state police force.
Terming the information to be a fictitious one, he appealed to the members of both the print and electronic media not to accept questionable information without proper verification when the correctness or otherwise of the same can easily be verified and confirmed.
It may be mentioned that some newspapers including the Hueiyen Lanpao today carried a report despatched by a national news agency from Delhi which said that Union Home Secretary GK Pillai has directed DGP Y Joykumar and Chief Secretary DS Poonia that complaints against commandos of Manipur have been increasing and there was a need to rein them in.
