Imphal, September 05, 2009:
Asserting that stand of the Government of Manipur on the July 23 Khwairamband Bazar incident is bereft of democratic spirit and reflects hidden motive to continue killing of innocent people, Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) has categorically stated that the people of Manipur should not retract from their present position until a definite solution on the matter is reached.
In a statement, MUSU president Philem Ibosana Singh said that there is no reason why Chief Minister O Ibobi should not be held responsible for every act of commission and omission of the police commandos who have come to live under the impression that they can kill anybody at their own sweet accord.
The police commandos who were involved in the Khwairamband Bazar incident of killing Sanjit first and later placing revolver near the dead body to pass it of as shoot-out should be pronounced guilty not only for the killing but also for possession of illegal arms, Ibosana said.
He further said that just as AICC president Sonia Gandhi had felt the pain of loss after Indira Gandhi was killed by her own security guards and Chief Minister O Ibobi at the time of killing special contractor O Lukhoi by some underground activists both of them should be able to feel the pain that the bereaved family members are experiencing after Sanjit and Rabina have fallen victims to the trigger happy police commandos.
While the death anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi is being observed Nation-wide every year as Anti-Terrorist Day, daily routine of killing innocent people in Manipur by the State as well as central security forces is being claimed as the achievement of the Government, Ibosana lamented.
Pointing out that most of the public agitation launched in the State of Manipur in the past as well as currently are directed against the excesses of the security forces, Ibosana said MUSU would also extending every possible support to the ongoing agitation as this is a decisive one not just for the people fighting for justice but even for the future of various civil organisations in the State.
It is more than one month now that the public have been agitating against the Government and scores of protestors have suffered casualties.
Yet the public have been restraining themselves from indulging in any violent act.
So it is high time for Government and its Ministers and MLAs to think over what would be the outcome if the agitated people decided to adopt violent means, Ibosana added.
