Atleast one Assam Rifles personnel was wounded during a shoot-out with suspected UGs in the vicinity of Kharal village, 10 kms to the east of Yairipok Police Station in Thoubal District.
According to police report, on receipt of specific information about the presence of UGs in the area, troops of 34 Assam Rifles started advancing towards the Kharal hill range of Ukhrul district and located to the east of Nongpok Sekmai since last night.
Towards dawn, exchange of firing took place between the AR troops and the UG suspects.
After a brief halt, the shoot out resumed at around 7 am today.
For the third time, firing exchange from both sides took place at around 3.30 pm.
In these encounters, atleast one AR personnel was wounded in the shoot out.
But it could not be confirmed whether the personnel was wounded in the encounter that took place in the morning or in the afternoon nor his identity.
The AR troops are still present in the area.
