Many condemn detention of Kishorchandra, alleged custodial death of Gaffar

In view of the detention of Wangkhem Kishorchandra under NSA and the alleged custodial killing of one MD Abdul Gaffar, The North East Dialogue Forum has sought immediate attention of the State Government.
A press release issued by senior manager of the forum has urged the State Government to establish an Independent Commission of three experts chaired by a retired Justice and review the implementation of NSA in Manipur for the few decades and feasibility and technicality of using NSA against Wangkhem Kishorchandra.
It further urged to communicate to CO of 26 AR, Thoubal district to take the persons, involved in the incident, to the Thoubal police for formalities and legal procedures at the earliest.
The statement further urged the DGP and SP, Thoubal to submit a report against the alleged custodial killing of Md Abdul Gaffar to the National Human Rights Commission.
It also demanded to invite the UN Special Rapporteur on promotion and protection of right to freedom of opinion and expression, Special Rapporteur on freedom of Assembly and association to Manipur, for an independent report of the status of implementation of UN guidelines on promotion of freedom of opinion and expression.
It also demanded to invite UN Rapporteur on torture and other cruel, inhumane or degrading treatment or punishment of many people, especially Md Abdul Gaffar.
Meanwhile, Centre for Research and Advocacy (CRA) Manipur has condemned the detention of Wangkhem Kishorchandra under the national Security Act 1980 for posting a video on social media criticising the Government.
A press release issued by president of CRA Manipur has urged the Central as well as the State Government to revoke the detention of Kishorchandra and ensure his release at the earliest.
It further urged the State Government to repeal the National Security Act 1980 for its blatant misuse in the State.
CRA Manipur also condemned the alleged custodial killing of Md Abdul Gaffar after being arrested by Manipur police Commando and Assam Rifles on December 20 .
It further urged the Government to stop targeting students leaders for revoking and raising their voices regarding the detention of Kishorchandra and to uphold the democratic rights of students and community leaders.
On the other hand, condemning the alleged custodial killing of Md Abdul Gaffar, Civil Liberties and Human Rights Organisation (CLAHRO) Manipur has demanded judicial enquiry on the death of Abdul Gaffar, conveyed a press release issued by general secretary of CLAHRO Manipur.
