City to witness mass anti-drug rally on April 7

As the cases of drug trafficking rises in Manipur, anti-drug campaigners in the State along with civil society organisations have planned a massive rally on April 7 in the state capital Imphal to register protest against rampant drug trafficking in the state.
Committee Against Drug Abuse (CADA), a pioneer anti-drug campaigning group in the state has said today that serious and intensive movement against drug trafficking in Manipur has become a matter of necessity.
Speaking to reporters in Imphal today, CADA president A Rabindra said the abolition of the SIU early this year after the Unit had seized a hefty quantity of drugs in Imphal Airport which worth to the tune of over one crore of rupees had revealed volumes.
He was apprehensive that people in high power could have been involved in
that incident.
He also said that on several occasions the Manipur Cabinet took decision of handing over cases to the CBI.
"But we do not know whether those cases were handed actually to the CBI," wondered A Rabindra.
The CADA president was also pointing to the Pallel drug haul involving army colonel Ajay Chowdhry and others where the state government had decided to hand over the case to the CBI.
