Imphal-bound trucks caught in Phesama landslide

Imphal, July 13, 2013:
A large number of vehicles including Imphal-bound goods laden trucks have been stranded along National Highway-2 (Imphal-Dimapur Road) near Phesama village in Nagaland following a massive landslide triggered by rain.
The landslide occurred at around 1.30 am today.
According to information received by Hueiyen Lanpao, the spot where the landslide occurred is 7 km off Kohima while coming from Dimapur.
Around 25 feet portion of the road has also been sunken making it impossible for any vehicle to pass through the area.
Although labourers of 15 Border Road Task Force have worked hard to clear the road, it is said that it might take around 10 days to repair the road fully for throwing open to traffic again.
According to President of Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO) Kekhruhol Mekro, the landslide also affected around 40-50 paddy fields situated below the road.
It may be recalled here that similar landslide had occurred at the same spot few years back cutting the road communication for days.
