BOSEM should give compensation to unfortunate students: MSF

Stating that the foul play in the this years High School Leaving Certificate examination conducted by Board of Secondary Education Manipur has made the public lose their trust in the board, Manipur Students' Federation (MSF) has demanded the State Government to inform the facts and findings of the report submitted by the three member enquiry committee, formed to investigate the matter and further demanded to serve punishment to those involved in the attempt to jeopardise the careers of students.
This was stated by general secretary of MSF Okendro Meisnam during a press meeting held at the newly opened office, Kwakeithel Thounaojam Leikai Tiddim ground today.
He continued that the State Government has failed to take up necessary actions even though the student union has been informing the GoVt about errors and foul play in the HSLC examination 2018 conducted by BOSEM.
He stated that the three member enquiry committee, formed by the Govt submitted a report to the Education (S) Commissioner.
He condemned the intention of the State Government in keeping the facts and findings of the report hidden till date, although the report was submitted a long time back.
Okendro demanded the State Government to take up necessary actions as per the findings of the report.
It can be recalled that when Langpoklakpam Pariton, a student of Nongpok Maheikol who sat for the HSLC examination 2018, submitted an application to the board seeking re-evaluation of his Home Science paper, the officials concerned denied of any change in his original marks for the said paper.
Later, he submitted another application appealing the board to provide a copy of his re-evaluated paper, through RTI Act and found that the head examiner had deducted 14 marks from the total score given by the examiner.
Such unethical and immoral actions will ruin the lives of many students, Okendro decried.
Another incident where a student who came in compartmental for scoring 7 was found to be the 1st Division as the real score was found to be 27 .
Stating that such foul play by the very head institute of education has caused students to lose their faith in the board, he demanded the State Government to also serve fitting punishment to those involved in such cases.
Okendro further demanded the Government to provide compensation to those unfortunate students who have been dragged into the mess by the authorities concerned.
As a result of these incidents, the board has even failed to provide books on time, he said while demanding the State Government to look into the matter so that the students receive their due books at the earliest.
MSF working president Lucky Konsam stated that the union has been taking up many initiatives for the welfare of students under its "Eikhoi Laink Nignthina Tamsi" campaign.
He informed that the office has shifted from Keishampat to Kwakeithel Thounaojam Leikai, Tiddim ground and added that the former letter head and receipts will no longer be acceptable.
He further conveyed that a memorial stone of the late advisor of the union, Pebam Chitaranjan will be erected at his last resting place near Bishnupur CI College.
He appealed all to contribute in constructing the memorial stone.
