Imphal, September 05 2018:
The Shillong Manipur Students' Union and Students' Union of Tamphasana Girl's (TG) Higher Secondary School, Imphal today condemned the alleged harassment on AMSU volunteers including its general secretary Soibam Anil and artists (singers/ music band members) by suspected NSCN (IM) cadres on September 3.It may be noted that the alleged incident happened at Nungba Keithel when they stopped for dinner after returning from a programme organised by All Assam Manipuri Students' Union at Silchar on Sep 3 at around 7.40 pm.
AMSU had claimed that four persons who allegedly identified themselves as cadres of NSCN (IM) assaulted AMSU general secretary Soibam Anil and looted cash from AMSU volunteers and the artists.
Denouncing the alleged assault on AMSU and artists, TG Higher Sec School Students' Union, in a statement issued today, questioned the lapses on the part of security forces posted near the area and asserted that the security forces are giving a "free hand" to the NSCN (IM) in the region by "allowing" open loots.
The union demanded the culprits be arrested at the earliest and cautioned that it will agitate if Government and police failed to arrest the culprits involved in the incident.
It may be mentioned that, AMSU had yesterday warned that it will launch intense agitation if the culprits are not arrested within 72 hours.
SP/NAB had yesterday said that an investigation has been launched and maximum efforts are being made to arrest the culprits at the earliest.
An FIR was lodged at Nungba PS in connection with the incident.
