Noney, January 02 2021:
An inferno reduced one house in Charoi Tupul Part-3 Bazar, Noney to ashes yesterday at around 6.30 pm .
The house belonged to LK Joel and Adaini (Rubin) Kamei, s/o Joel Kamei.
According to some villagers, the fire was triggered by electric short circuit when the villagers including the victims were out at the local Church celebrating New Year's Day.
It is also reported that properties worth Rs 50 lakh, including Rs 30 lakh in cash kept inside the house were destroyed completely as none was there to douse the fire when the flame was mild.
Fortunately, the fire was extinguished before spreading to adjacent structures with the help of the villagers and jawans of 10 AR Noney Battalion using a fire extinguisher at around 7.45 pm.
Firefighters from Imphal reached the site at around 8.30 pm.
It may be mentioned that a massive fire destroyed 10 shops completely at Noney Bazar on April 9, 2013 .
At that time, the then Home Minister Gaikhangam had assured of opening one fire station, however, the same has not been materialised yet, though years have passed.
In this regard, the villagers appealed to Chief Minister N Biren Singh to set up one fire station at Noney soon.
No casualties have been reported.
