The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) celebrated its 44th foundation day today at the office premise of the union's headquarters at DM College campus.
The celebration function graced by secretary of the Council of Higher Secondary School, H Nabachandra as guest of honour was presided over by president of the union, Irengbam Jamesbond.
Lairelakpam Rajmohon attended as guest of honour.
Speaking at the function, Nabachandra stressed the need for uniting all the student bodies in the state on the basis that students are one and make a forceful pressure group to fight for making education a free zone.
During the current August month due to disturbances, not only the study atmosphere of the students but the functioning of the Council has been greatly affected.
He also said that for a change in the state, students are needed to guide towards a good direction.
Delivering his speech as guest of honour, Rajmohon expressed concerned over the increasing disturbances in the education sector that causing great impact to the academic calendar.
Students are left untouched as far as possible in other parts of the globe but, in the state students are taking big role in agitations and other forms of protests.
Jamesbond, speaking on the occasion recalled the born of AMSU since the eruption of mass protest against artificial food scarcity which four innocent students fall into the jaw of dead in the hand of the security personnel.
Since the existence of the students body, it had taken part major role in the inclusion of Manipuri Language in the 8th schedule of the Indian Constitution, in the foreigner issue of 1980.Two students scarified their life in the issue.
The role of AMSU in setting up Manipur University which 60 MLAs of the state could not do.
Recalling the cabinet decision of eviction of AMSU headquarters from the present place is unreasonable but government is to take up welfare work, the office can be shifted.
AMSU will always go with the people, he added.
