Chandel, August 28 2009:
Indigenous Democratic Front (IDF), Chandel branch has threatened to launch intense agitations against the state government if it fails to fix the date for elections to the District Council elections within August 31 .
A statement issued by the chairman of IDF, Chandel branch, SS Mohring tells the state government not to adopt delay tactics in holding the much anticipated district council elections.
It stated that the prolonged denial of the election has deprived the hill people of their rights to the decentralised governance as enshrined under the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
Urging the government to facilitate the conduct of the election at the earliest time, the IDF statement also pledged to strive to achieve the long cherished dream of the tribal at any cost.
