State works minister, K Ranjit today said that government has a plan for widening and improving the stretch of Mayai Lambi road from Hiyangthang Thongkohng to Wabagai Lamkhai.
The work minister speaking at a function held in connection with inauguration of a RCC bridge across Nambul River at Samurou Makha Leikai further said that the state Public Works Department has started taking up process for improving of the Mayai Lambi which is one of the main roads of the state.
He also observed that due to the demand of 30 percent of the total fund allocation for the improvement works of this road, the implementation of the works has been delayed.
He also said that with the opening the newly built bridge, the road communication of the people of Samurou, Irom Meijarao, Thounaoujam, Sanjenbam, Pukhrambam and Nambol will be shorten.
The construction work of the bridge was started from 2003 by a contractor named L Ram but due to the shortage of funds in the state plan, it could not be completed on time.
Owing to the strong pressure from the people of the area, the construction work of the bridge was recommenced from 2008 with Rs 140 lakh from the Special Plan Assistance (SPA).
It was targeted to complete by December of this current year but with an estimated cost of Rs 115.31 lakh, the construction was completed three month before the targeted time, the minister added.

Apart from targeting to complete four bridges in Churachandpur and Senapati districts under NLCPR by March next year, 11 bridges are constructing with the funds from the SPA.
Black topping works of roads across the state could not be taken up during the rainy season except repairing of potholes and other small works.
The black topping works will be resumed after the rainy season, he added.
The bridge across the Nambul river at Samurou having a length of 30 meter and 5.20 meter width has carriage width of 4.15 meter.
