Works Minister K Ranjit has assured that the Government would take up the responsibility of improving the condition of Mayai Lambi Road from Hiyangthang to Wabagai Bazar and make it double laned very soon.
Inaugurating a RCC bridge constructed over Nambul river at Samurou Makha Leikai today, the Minister informed that for improving the condition of the road stretch under the funding of Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR) as project proposal of Rs 19 crores has already been submitted to the Department of North Eastern Region.
The Minister further assured that before taking up works to improve the condition of the road, the existing potholes would be filled up first.
In fact filling up of the potholes should have been completed long ago but for the undue interference of armed UG groups demanded payment of 30 percent of the fund from the contractors.
The Minister also informed that two bridges constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 2 crores each at Churachandpur and Senapati would be commissioned during the current working season.
Apart from this, construction of bridges at 11 different places of valley districts are currently underway and the same are being targeted to be completed by March 31, next year.
Presiding over the function, MLA of Wangoi A/C Salam Joy described inauguration of the bridge as realisation of one of the cherished dreams of the people.
He said that black-topping of the road from Oinam Lamkhai and Wangoi in his Assembly Constituency had been completed and one bailey bridge and six community halls have been inaugurated while construction of seven others are nearly completed.
The bridge which was inaugurated today had been reportedly constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 1.40 crores under Special Plan Assistance.
Construction of the bridge began on December 17 last year and has been completed four months ahead of its target.
It is said that the newly inaugurated bridge would facilitate movement of the people living in Irom Meijrao, Thounaojam, Sanjenbam, Pukhrambam and Nambol.
