Imphal, September 26 2009:
Troops of 31 Assam Rifles gunned down a suspected underground at a place near the international border with Myanmar between border pillar 80 and 81 located some 9 km northwest of Moreh police station last night at about 11.15 am, a police report said today.
Troops of 34 Assam Rifles also apprehended two PULF activists from Thoubal Bazar area in another counter insurgency operation in Thoubal district yesterday.
A statement of the IGAR (South) claimed recovery of one US made 40mm lathod, one lathod live round, two empty lathod shells, a Chinese hand grenade from the slain suspect.
The dead body along with recovered items has been handed over to Moreh Police Station today.
The statement further claimed that the troops on close observation on the movement of anti-social elements killed the underground when challenged the individuals approaching the ambush sites retaliated with heavy auto and lathod in a bid to flee into thick foliage in the area.
The dead body has been brought up at RIMS morgue for official identification.
Troops of 34 Assam Rifles also apprehended two PLUF activists carrying out tax collection in general area in Thoubal Bazar yesterday.
They were identified as Md Amir Khan alias Ibocha (30) son of Md Ajimuddin of Sangaiyumpham Cherapur Mathak Leikai and Md Amir Khan alias Thidum same locality with the former, statement of the IGAR (South) added.
