Imphal, September 26 2009:
JAC for 2006 Autonomous District Council Teachers Appointed Parents and Guardians, Manipur today announced that the body will impose economic blockade on NH-39 and 53 commencing from midnight of September 29 if the government does not finalise the DPC for appointment of 835 primary teachers of the autonomous district council.
Vehicles transporting goods related with press and media will be outside the purview of the economic blockade, the JAC further announced.
Announcing the stand of the body today at a press conference held at Kuki Inn, Imphal, convener of the JAC, Chungshat Khongsai said in August 2006, state government conducted the DPC for appointment of primary teachers of schools under the Hill autonomous councils.
Authorities issued identity cards valid upto 2012 and maintained service books of the selected candidates in the DPC and they had drawn salaries for 10 to 11 months.
Even though they did not get the salaries since then, still they attend schools and discharge duty.
They were even used in the general elections to the state Assembly and Parliament.
When made enquiry into the non-payment of salaries, they were informed that it was due to shortage of funds for payment of salaries by the authorities.
Meanwhile, state cabinet decided to conduct fresh recruitment of 3853 primary teachers and issued order for the same.
But due to objection from the JAC, the DPC for recruitment scheduled was postponed by an order issued on September 11 .
Now, without solving the cases of the 835 teachers, state government decided to hold the DPC once again.
Decrying the move of the state government, the JAC decided to re-commence the economic blockade stir which the body suspended earlier, the convener said.
The JAC also announced that it has banned submission of application to the employment exchange across the six autonomous councils and warned of taking no responsible for any untoward incident arising out of violating the ban.
During the blockade, vehicles transporting goods related with press and media will be relaxed, he added.
