Imphal, September 26 2009:
The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), the apex body of the Kuki community/tribes, has appealed to the student leaders to call off the ongoing class boycotts in the interest of the academic career of the students.
It is worth mentioning that the classes have been boycotted in the wake of the July 23 incident by the All Manipur Students Union and endorsed by other students organisations.
The press statement of the Kuki body further stated that the KIM belatedly condemns in the strongest term the dastardly act of Manipur police commandos on July 23, 2009 .
The KIM also conveyed its heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the families of the two deceased persons and the injured.
It also appealed to the Government of Manipur to extend a helping hand to the families of slain persons and the injured and not just remain apathetic, according to the press statement.
The press release also mentioned that Kuki Inpi Manipur is 'apolitical from its inception', and wished that the present imbroglio in the State comes to an end at the earliest in the larger interest of the State of Manipur.
It further expressed pain and astonishment at the way students stopped from attending classes.
The body was worried of the situation of the students who would use unfair means during examinations so as to compensate the forced missed classes, stated in the press release.
Such situation would hamper the academic interest of the students which may ultimately leave a negative impact of thought on the students who are to be the future leaders of the State, according to the press statement.
The body has appealed to the student leaders who have led the students this far to call off the class boycotts and find an alternative positive means to achieve their demands and call upon every right thinking citizen of Manipur to support the Kuki Inpi's stand and make Manipur a better place to live in henceforth, stated in the KIM press statement.
