DFO, Thoubal Division L Debala said that the incident occurred when the staff of Forest Department along the campers of Two-Day One-Night Bird Watching Camp were on their way to watch different wild birds in and around Ikop lake yesterday night as part of the bird watching camp.
However, they were not able to catch the culprits as they disappeared taking advantage of darkness but the firearm and cut up parts of wild birds were seized from the spot, she added.
She further appealed all to shun the practice of capturing wild and migratory birds using bird trap and sought cooperation from the villagers to help forest department in its endeavour to protect and preserve the habitat of migratory birds.
