Imphal, December 22 2018:
After the crisis for leadership in the Manipur People's Party (MPP) calmed down for a few months with the appointment of a new president and other office bearers some months back, rifts and dissent have resurfaced following rejection of some application for candidature for the Lok Sabha election.
Many members of the regional political party, including five vice presidents had even left their respective portfolios and formed a committee called MPP Protection and Development Committee recently.
The newly formed committee organized a one day political conference on the present political status of MPP at Manipur Press Club today.
During the political conference, P Jamini Devi, who claimed to be the vice president (administration) of MPP till recently, decried that the incumbent party president O Jugindro Singh has manipulated the election committee of the party thus preventing it from receiving/accepting her application for candidature.
She asserted that her application for candidature in the upcoming Lok Sabha election was not accepted as Jugindro urged the party's election committee convenor M Nirmala not to accept her application on the ground that she submitted her application late.
Jamini explained that she went to MPP office in the afternoon of December 16 to submit her application for candidature in the upcoming MP election.
Claiming that she did not find the EC convenor in her office, Jamini said that she called up Nirmala and informed her about the predicament.
As the convenor, Jamini, assured to be present at the office within a short while, Jamini said and added that she waited at the office for a long time.
However, after Nirmala arrived at the office, she refused to accept her (Jamini) application on the ground that she had submitted her application late and that Jugindro had told her (Nirmala) not to accept the said application, Jamini claimed.
Jamini also accused Jugindro of being irresponsible and incompetent as a party president in dealing with several social issues concerning the party's role.
Many other speakers at the meeting also criticized Jugindro for not paying heed to the matters raised by the party members.
