Governor, CM greet on Gaan-Ngai

Governor of Manipur VK Duggal has greeted the people of the State especially the Zeliangrong brethrens on the occasion of Gaan-Ngai, 2014 .
In his message, the Governor said, ''Gaan-Ngai, which means in Zeliangrong dialect 'Festival of Winter Season' is a festival of paying our respect and homage to the souls of those who left the previous year.
Besides, it symbolizes the end of a year and heralding a new one.
This ritualistic festival of the Zeliangrong community has now become an important cultural event in the State and is joined by all communities irrespective of their religious affiliation providing an opportunity to strengthen the bond of friendship between various communities'' .
Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has also conveyed his warm greetings to the people of Manipur especially the Zeliangrong brethren on the auspicious and joyous occasion of Gaan-Ngai.
''Gaan-Ngai, the biggest cultural and religious post harvest festival of the Zeliangrong community, is also an institution through which the community sustains their cultural heritage and way of life.
It is the essence of the Zeliangrong culture,'' the CM said in a message.
He wished that while celebrating the festival in its true spirit, may the Gaan-Ngai festival brings happiness and prosperity and spread the message of unity, love, peace and brotherhood amongst all the communities in the State.
President of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), Gaikhangam has greeted the people of the State on the auspicious occasions of Emoinu Erat Thouram, ritual rites of Meetei community and Gaan-Ngai celebration of Kabui community.
In his greeting, Gaikhangam wished for a peaceful, united and prosperous State with the observance of Emoinu Erat Thouram and Gaan-Ngai celebration.
