Imphal, January 12 2014 :
The National Youth Day and Youth Week was opened today at the Kangshang of Khuman Lampak Sports Complex under the aegis of the Directorate of Youth Affairs and Sports.
The inaugural session was graced by Commissioner (YAS and Art & Culture) Dr RK Nimai and YAS Director N Ashok Kumar as chief guest and president respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr RK Nimai said that Manipur can certainly progress if the potentials of youth are properly nourished and exploited for constructive purposes.
To hone the talents and identify the potential of youngsters who constitute major chunk of the State's manpower, organising regular training programmes is crucial, Nimai stated.
It is the duty of parents to identify potential of their wards and guide them accordingly.
Saying youth/students coming from different districts of the State would know each other in the next two days, Nimai advised the students not to talk blasphemously about any religion for all religions are equally good for mankind.
Underscoring the responsibility of youngsters in taking a nation to a higher trajectory of development, N Ashok Kumar said 18 to 25 years is the most productive and defining period in the life of a man.
Youngsters should share due responsibility for their localities, State and the country when they are physically and mentally active and capable.
Altogether 140 students coming from different districts of Manipur are taking part in the Youth Week which would conclude tomorrow.
