NSS youth month kick starts at MU

With the observance of Vivekananda Festival on the occasion of the National Youth Day, the NSS youth month, organized by the NSS Cell, Manipur University under the theme, 'Youth in Nation Building Process', has kick started from today.
The festival, which was organised at the senate hall of the University, witnessed a number of programmes comprising of Vivekananda lecture series-III and competitive events of NSS volunteers, said a press release.
In the first session of the lecture series, KC Nanda spoke on the topic, 'Swami Vivekananda and his message to youth'.
Prof CJ O'Brien of the Department of English, Manipur University spoke on the topic, 'Youth of India Arise-the Vivekananda way' while Prof S Lokendrajit Singh, Head, Department of Philosophy, Manipur University delivered lecture on the topic, 'Life and works of Swami Vivekananda' .
In the second session, Dr LR Kom, Deputy Director, MACS and Director, State Blood Transfusion Council (SBTC), Manipur spoke on the topic, 'Youth, HIV/AIDS and voluntary blood donation" .
Altogether 107 participants comprising of NSS volunteers and NSS programme officers of various educational institutes of the State participated in the festival, added the press release.
After the lecture series, a written quiz competition was conducted in which 43 NSS volunteers participated.
The theme of the quiz was based on youth, Vivekananda, NSS, Indian culture and North East India.
Pukhrambam Paikhombajit Meitei of Manipur College stood first position.
He was awarded NSS Gold Medal with certificate of appreciation.
U Benerjee Singh of the same college stood second position and awarded NSS Silver Medal with certificate of appreciation and Saikhom Chanchan Devi of YK College, Wangjing stood third position and awarded NSS Bronze Medal with certificate appreciation.
In the ex-tempore speech competition, Kh Suresh Singh of Manipur College, Deol Biswas of the same college, Th Deepak Singh of Imphal College stood first, second and third positions respectively.
In the symposium competition held on the topic, 'Youth in nation building process' Kh Suresh Singh of Manipur College, Saikhom Chanchan Devi of YK College, Wangjing and N Johny of YK College, Wangjing bagged first, second and third positions respectively.
Seminars, interaction sessions, panel discussions and other competitions would also be organised in collaboration with different NSS Units of the State during the month ie January 12 to February 12 .
Meanwhile, Manipur NSS team won best discipline award in the second North East NSS Festival held at Shillong from January 7 to 11 .
