MMC to be functional from this year: CM

Chief Minister O Ibobi informed the Assembly today that process is underway to make Manipur Medical Council (MMC) functional from this year.
The Chief Minister was responding to a question raised by MLA Ng Bijoy, who wanted to know whether there is any provision for setting up of a Medical Council in the state, during the Question Hour of the Assembly today.
The Chief Minister said that the Manipur Medical Council Act, 2009 was notified in May this year and the time for implementation of the Act would be finalized as soon as possible.
With the Manipur Medical Council becoming functional all doctors who have completed MBBS would have to register under the Council.
Responding to another query raised by MLA K Sarat on the construction of a memorial tomb and observance of a memorial day in honour of Pukhrambam Kajao, who sacrificed his life for the sake of motherland, Chief Minister O Ibobi maintained that Patriots' Day is being observed in the state every year on August 13 in honour of all those martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the sake of the motherland.
However, it would not be possible to observe a separate memorial day for martyrs individually.
Replying to a question by MLA L Nandakumar on the provision for providing prepaid metres in Uripok A/C, CM assured that prepaid metres in Uripok area would be provided within 3 months' time.
He also informed the House that with installation of new metres who are to be procured from outside the state, the complaints of consumers over collection of electric taxes irrespective of the duration of power supplied to them would not arise.
IFC Minister Ngamthang Haokip, while answering to a query raised by MLA Th Shyamkumar on the deadline for completion of Thoubal Multipurpose Project, said that the Project being targeted to be completed by March 2014.After commissioning, the Project would ensure irrigation facilities to 21,862 hectres of land.
It would also provide 10 million gallons of potable water on a daily basis apart from generating 7.50 megawatt of power.
Answering to another question raised by Opposition MLA Dr I Ibohalbi on the payment of compensation to flood affected families of Khoijuman following collapsed of the bridge near Khoijuman Mamang Leikai, Minister Ngamthang Haokip said that in 2010 when the people of Khoijuman was hit by flood, many fish farms and paddy fields were destroyed.
However, at that time, the government was not in position give compensations.
Nonetheless, if the funds under the fund control sector of 2012-13 State Plan is sanctioned, necessary compensations would be surely given to the affected families.
