Police foil women vendors attempt

Police today foiled an attempt of women vendors of Khwairamband Bazar who tried to throng the Assembly today.
The women were demanding for a resolution be passed to implement Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) by the House which is currently on session.
After holding a sit-in-protest, large number of women vendors of three Ima markets Purana Bazar, New Market and Laxmi Market, took the street and marched towards Manipur Legislative Assembly complex at around 11 am.
Police blocked the rallyists and in the melee, Joint Secretary of Nupi Keithel Semgat Sagatpa Lup, RK Radhesasa (65) fainted.
She was rushed to RIMS Hospital after giving first aid.
On the other hand, Federation of Regional Indigenous Societies (FREINDS) continued to stage sit-in-protests in different parts of the State demanding the Manipur Legislative Assembly to pass resolution to implement ILPS during its ongoing monsoon session.
Speaking at a protest held at Sadokpam, FREINDS Advisor K Birahari said, the State Government has failed to listen to the voice of the people although they have been persistently demanding implementation of ILP in Manipur.
Birahari announced that he would stage indefinite hunger strike from July 6 pressing the issue to the Government.
The Joint Secretary said that he is ready to sacrifice his life for the cause of indigenous people of Manipur.
Taking part in the protest, FREINDS president Sapamcha Jadumani said, ILPS is operational in Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh.
Maintaining that FREINDS has taken a firm stand to campaign for the implementation of ILPS, Jadumani urged the people of the State to extend co-operation and support in the movement.
Young Socio Cultural Union, Methel Mei Union of Keishamthong Kabui Khun, Young Development Organisation Heirangoithong, Sorokhaibam Leikai Youth Development Asociation, Singjamei Makha, Yaiskul Imoinu Meira Paibee Lup, Khwairamband Masajid Road Association, Kanglei Ima Lup Manipur, Uripok Khaidem Leikai, Women Welfare Association, Youth Cultural Welfare Organisation, Heinoubok Tend farming Cooperative Society Ltd, Sagolband Tera Tongbram Leikai, Sadokpam Leikai Apunba Meira Paibee Lup and Kabui Khun also hold sit-in-protests in its respective localities on the same issue.
