Imphal, August 02 2015:
Former Rajya Sabha MP BD Behring has urged the State Government to immediately send relief material for around 50,000 people of different villages, which have been isolated from the rest of the State due to sweeping away of Chakpikarong bridge and other bridges.
In a statement, he said that Chandel and Thoubal are the worst affected districts by heavy rainfall and flood.
Chakpikarong bridge serves as a connecting route to Sajik Tampak, Jangdung, Khongtal and other villages located along India-Myanmar border, he said.
On the other hand, the road that connects Mombi, Joupi, Khangbarol, Khengjoy, New Somtal and Molcham villages have been cut off after the collapse of a pillar of Gelgai bailey bridge, the former MP said.
He urged the State Government to seek special financial help from the Centre.
BD Behring also questioned whether the State Government has a Relief and Disaster Management Department or not.
