Imphal, August 24:
Bluntly questioning the motive of the Government over its refusal to convene the Assembly and discuss the issue of lifting the Armed Forces Special Powers Act from the State, the Manipur Forward Youth Front today said that all the MLAs should convey through the newspapers whether they would like to convene the Assembly or not to discuss the issue.
The refusal of the State Government is nothing but an attempt to hide their real agenda and that is not to lift the said Act said MAFYF in a statement and added that this also amounts to dishonouring the Constitution of the country.
The Assembly is the august place to discuss all issues pertaining to the people, said MAFYF and questioned why the Govt is so reluctant in convening a session of the Assembly.
Accusing the Government of using the Assembly session only to suit themselves, the statement recalled that the ruling bench had steadfastly refused to discuss even the murder case of Lungnila on the floor of the Assembly.
As the 48 hour deadline given earlier to convene the Assembly has already lapsed, MAFYF now has no other choice but to launch a series of democratic agitation, said the statement and asked the MLAs in favour of convening the Assembly to announce their stand through the media within 24 hours.
The statement further said that the Chief Minister and his Council of Ministers are not at all keen to lift the said Act and named them.
Those named are the Chief Minister O Ibohi, Govindas Konthoujam, W LeimaDevi.LNandakumar, Ph Parijat, Th Debendra, Phungzathang Tonsing, N Mangi, Gaikhangam, Ngamthang Haokip and Md Allauddin Khan.
The youth body further questioned whether the Assembly is there to discuss the issues confronting the people or a place to serve the interest of the Govt and the Ministers.
