Imphal, August 24:
Following a ruling by the Gauhati High Court which stayed the State Government order of banning the news channel of 1STV cable network, efforts are on to resume the local news service even as the State Govt is gearing up to move the double bench of the same Court to vacate the stay order.
The stay order was issued based on a petition filed by the Network's president Kh Kuleswor Singh through advocate BP Sahu.
The interim stay order on the Govt ban was issued today, according to an ISTV statement.
On the other hand, Imphal West District Magistrate Y Surchandra stated that the stay order was passed on the ground that no show cause notice was served in prior to the clamp down on the channel.
While no other technical defect was mentioned, the High Court mentioned that the District Magistrate's order (August 15) prohibiting telecast of local news programme cited as likely to disturb the public tranquility, added the DM's statement.
Elaborating on necessary process and consultation with relevant authorities before banning the news programme, the statement further informed of having taken into custody VHS/CD copies of the news bulletin telecast from July 11 to August 14 to move the double bench of the Court against the stay order.
