Imphal, June 16 2015 :
All necessary preparations have been made for the observation of the 14th The Great June Uprising and Unity Day 2015 by the observation committee of UCM and AMUCO in memory of those 18 martyrs who sacrificed their lives to protect the territorial integrity of Manipur.
Various organisations together with these two civil society organisations have been carrying out beautification works and cleaning up drives since the past many days at Kekrupat and surrounding areas.
A large platform has been set up for the main function while necessary arrangements for the convenience of the general public have also been made for paying floral tributes to the martyrs.

It is said that individuals belonging to different communities and organisations would deliver speeches at the occasion.
A mass blood donation camp will also be held at Kekrupat on the day.
It may be mentioned that UCM and AMUCO have been observing the day though at separate venues since 2002 to remember and pay homage to the martyrs who had sacrificed their lives for the State in 2001 .
However, since the past two years, the two civil society bodies have been jointly observing the day at Kekrupat.
These 18 persons died in security forces' firing when they took to the street after the then BJP-led NDA Government inserted the clause 'without territorial limits' in the ceasefire agreement with NSCN (IM) .
