Imphal, June 16 2015 :
BJP Manipur unit president Thounaojam Chaoba announced that his party shall remain as responsible opposition in all the six Autonomous District Councils in the state.
Before the polls he was reported to have said that his party may join hands with the non-Congress parties to form the councils.
The deputy chief minister Gaikhangam was seemingly shocked pointing out that the BJP was going to join hands with a party which has been working for the vivisection of the territory of Manipur.
It is not known whether what Gaikhangam said had impacted on the BJP or an understanding could not be reached with some other parties.
Chaoba said that in the last elections the BJP could not win a single seat in the ADC polls.
However this time the party won 21 seats in the 144 seat ADCs spread in five hill districts.
He contended that the people in the hill areas have appreciated the developmental and welfare programmes the party and the prime minister have done at the centre in the last one year.
He said that it was a significant victory of the party.
