The 38th State level Students' Science Seminar was held today at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound under the aegis of the Directorate of Education (S), Science Unit.
Altogether 24 students competed in the morning session which was held on the topic "Pulses for Sustainable Food Security: Prospects and Challenges" .
Kh Julia (Class IX) of Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School, Porompat who was adjudged the best performer of the seminar would represent Manipur in the National Students Science Seminar 2016 which would be held at Nehru Science Centre, Mumbai on October 4. Speaking at the prize distribution function which was held at the end of the seminar, Directorate of Education (S), Science Promotion Officer RK Tenedy lamented that students have been facing lot of difficulties in the process of opening bank accounts with zero balance.
With majority of students unable to open bank accounts, they are unable to avail benefits of different scholarship schemes launched by the Government of India, he said.
Education(S) Joint Secretary Abdus Salam said that there were instances when students of the State won second/third positions at National level Science seminars.
Remarking that such feats of State students were a matter of pride for the entire State, Abdus Salam attributed such spectacular success of State students to the hard work of teachers.
Asserting that Science is the pivot of modern human civilization, he highlighted the need to organise Science seminars, quizzes and exhibitions in order to popularise Science among students.
