College teachers discuss education, ROP

A one day conference on 'Challenges and Issues of Higher Education' and '7th UGC ROP 2016' was held today at the Central Hall of DM College of Science under the aegis of the Federation of Government College Teachers' Associations (FEGOCTA), Manipur.
The inaugural session of the conference was attended by Higher Education Commissioner Dilip Joshi, FEGOCTA acting president M Gobinda, DM College of Arts Principal M Ibohal, Imphal College Principal L Randhoni and DM College of Science, Anthropology HoD Dr SA Latif Shah as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
Speaking at the conference, FEGOCTA general secretary Dr N Somorendro said that the 7th UGC Pay Review Committee has been inviting suggestions till September 30 and they may submit their report in December this year.
He said that recommendations adopted at the meeting would be sent to the 7th UGC Pay Review Committee.
Many State Governments and Universities faced a lot of difficulties when they started implementing the 6th UGC ROP/Regulations 2010.In the case of Manipur, there was a long delay before revised pay structures were implemented and there were many shortfalls.
Manipur was the last State to implement the 6th UGC ROP/Regulations 2010 .
Recommendations of the meeting would be submitted not only to the UGC but also to the Union HRD Minister and the Prime Minister, Dr Somorendro said.
The conference also featured an academic session on 'Evaluation of the 6th UGC ROP in the light of the 7th UGC ROP and Bringing Quality in Research and Teaching and the 7th UGC ROP' .
