Ratankumar attends meeting

The meeting of the group of Ministers of Transport Ministers of hill States including Manipur was held at Transport Bhawan, Parliament Street here today.
Dr Kh Ratankumar, Transport Minister accompanied by Transport Commissioner M Lakshmikumar attended the meeting.
The meeting discussed many issues pertaining to the transport system in the hill areas including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and North East States with particular reference to road accidents, road permit system, road conditions and the need for reduction of deaths due to road accidents which was currently 1,50,000 per annum in India.
Besides, funding on road safety activities was also discussed.
Transport Manipur Dr Ratankumar pressed for sufficient fund to meet various activities on road safety activities which the State Government was currently fully engaged with as the collection from compound fees was quite meagre.
Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways, Government of India assured that Rs 8000 crores under Central Road Fund under Road sector would be made available to the States through State Nodal Agency.
The meeting decided to convene the next meeting of Groups of Ministers at Guwahati and Imphal.
