In connection with the death of a newly married-woman who was found hung to death in suspicious manner yesterday afternoon, infuriated mob vandalized the house of the husband at Kongpal Chingangbam Leikai under Porompat Police Station this morning.
Police fired several rounds in the air to disperse the mob and latter arrested four persons for the act.
The deceased woman is identified as Oinam Ongbi Aruni Devi and her husband as Oinam Gyanendro Singh.
According to information culled from the site of the incident, a bus-load of people from Laipham Khunou, the natal home of the deceased woman came to the house of Gyanendro at around 4 am today and destroyed the house beyond redemption.
While the mob was storming the house, Porompat police arrived at the scene and resorted to firing several rounds to disperse the agitated people.
Police later arrested four persons in this connection.
Gyanendro has also been taken into police custody.
Arani Devi (34) was found hung to death with an Inaphi from a beam oh the first floor of the house at around 2.30 pm yesterday.
Gyanendro and Aruni were married in March this year.
Gyanendro is allegedly having an affair with another woman, who already has four children.
Gyanendro's clandestine affair is said to be an open secret known even to all the local people.
When the body of Aruni was found hanging, the family members reported the matter to Porompat Police who picked up the body and deposited it at the mortuary of RIMS for postmortem.
In view of the tense situation, police personnel were deployed and kept vigil in the area to avoid any untoward incident since yesterday, local sources said.
Talking to media person, a younger brother of Aruni held Gyanendro responsible for the death of her sister.
He accused his brother-in-law of ill-treating Aruni and informed that the couple had quarreled bitterly on the night of September 10.Meanwhile, police said that the post-mortem of Aruni was done today and the all process was recorded in video camera.
The body has been handed over to her parents, with the permission of her father-in-law, and last rites conducted at her native Laipham Khunou this evening.
