Imphal, September 12:
The prevailing chaotic situation in the State is a direct fall out of the absence of an efficient and capable leadrship, asserted Padmashree awardee Ratan Thiyam.
Interacting with mediapersons at the Chorus Repertory Theatre Complex today, Ratan Thiyam said that the inability to highlight the State's problems to the Central leaders minutely has aggravated the situation in the State and added that leaders of the State, both ruling and Opposition along with the intellectuals should sit together and chalk out a formula to end the ongoing crisis instead of launching verbal attacks on each other.
Commenting on the mass class boycott under taken by the students demanding the removal of AFSPA from the State, Ratan said immediate negotiations should be taken up with the agitating students and bring them to the class room as the future of the State depends on these young students.
Launching a scathing attack on Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil who visited the State a few days ago, Ratan said that the Union Minister should have visited the State earlier instead of waiting for the situation to get out of control.
The apathy of the Central leaders to the problems of the State is a clear testimony that the people of the North East region do not figure in the priority list of the Centre, added Ratan.
Army atrocities have increased considerably in the State ever since AFSPA was imposed he said adding the Act has failed to contain insurgency movement.
