Variegated cultural items to adorn Sangai Festival 2015

The Sangai Festival 2015 scheduled to begin on November 21 and organised by the Tourism Department, Government of Manipur will witness myriad and variegated traditional, cultural and indigenous extravaganzas including sports.
Tourism Secretary Nidhi Mani Tripathi on Thursday said that this year, the State Government is planning to hold the festival with many traditional items like indigenous games, traditional dances and adventure sports.
During an interaction with media persons at the conference hall of the Secretariat, the Tourism Secretary said that necessary preparation for holding the festival has begun.
The festival scheduled for November 21 to 30 will be graced by Manipur Governor V Shanmuganathan as the Chief Guest on the opening day.
Like previous years, Polo Tournament will also be held this time and it will be participated by teams from the United States, Australia and Thailand among others.
During the festival, indigenous games including adventure sports will be organised at many venues.
Many communities of Manipur will also showcase their cultural and traditional dances while a cultural troupe from Thailand will also perform during the festival.
Nidhi Mani Tripathy said as part of the festival, a ballad titled "Keibul Lamjao" will also be staged.
Around 250 stalls within the festival venue will not only showcase the State's textile and handicraft items but also cater to the needs of those seeking the tastes of ethnic dishes.
The Government is also planning to hold the Asian Theatre Festival during the Sangai Festival where a team from Myanmar will also participate apart from number of scholars from many countries, said the Tourism Secretary.
Nidhi Mani Tripathy further said that Imphal Municipal Council and Tourism Department is jointly planning to keep the State Capital City and its surroundings neat and clean during the festival.
Necessary preparation including that of transportation will be taken up and Chief Secretaries of Northeastern States are also likely to participate in the festival.
The festival will also have an exhibition of World War II items.
