Imphal, August 05 2013:
The Government is likely to arrange alternative places of settlement for the outlying villages which are likely to be affected to the point of displacement because of boundary fencing work being taken up along Indo-Myanmar border in Moreh sector.
According to an official source, the Government is actively considering all possible remedial measures for the villages which would be bifurcated or totally displaced by the border fencing work.
The Government is also considering to place a proposal of erecting auxiliary border pillars for villages which would be bifurcated by the border fencing work at a meeting of the Indo-Myanmar Joint Working Group.
As for the villages which would be displaced, the Government is likely to arrange alternative places of settlement.
Border fence being constructed by BRO is at a distance of 10 metres into the Indian territory from the no man's land.
Claiming that the border fencing work is in conformity to international rules and norms, the official informed that Indian Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai visited Mandalay last month and made a proposal for joint inspection of all the border disputes and controversies between the two countries.
However, the Government of Myanmar is not giving any response to the Foreign Secretary's proposal.
Notably, Manipur and Myanmar shares 389 Kms long boundary.
