Imphal, October 03 2020:
Irabot Foundation Manipur has drawn the attention of the State Government to focus on the prevailing COVID-19 situation in the State and chalk out SOPs accordingly.
Irabot Foundation Manipur in a statement, said that Manipur, despite its small size and small population as compared to other States of the country, is being gradually usurped by the pandemic with each passing day.
The COVID-19 positive cases in the State now has even surpassed the number of cases in countries like Zimbabwe, Syria and Tajikistan and sadly India is expected to become the worst affected country in the world somewhere between October 15 and 20, it said while pointing out there is a vast range of shortcomings and flaws in handling the situation on the part of the Government.
Even as India always faltered at Olympic Games, the country is now leading the tally in COVID-19 cases and it is a shocking truth, it said.
The world has seen how the most populous country China from where the outbreak began, had dealt with the virus successfully and in spite of learning or adopting the measures, India which stands second in terms of population adopted the model of a small and sparsely populated country like Sweden, it said.
The result for adopting an inappropriate measure is horrific and it is apparent as COVID-19 cases in India crossed the 60 lakh mark and more than 1 lakh deaths, it continued.
The situation will only get gloomier, said the foundation with concern and added that India's fight against the contagion will never be successful as it lacks proper strategy above lack of kits, manpower and facilities.
People have witnessed the biggest blunder on the part of the Central Government by allowing movement of people from red zone areas, it said while adding that India's fight against COVID-19 is a total failure.
As such, the State Government should carefully study and devise an appropriate SOP to contain and defeat the disease instead of following the Central instructions blindly.
While lamenting the ineffectiveness of SOP in the State, the foundation also urged the Government to tighten the grip and at the same time called on people to follow the guidelines seriously to ensure safety of self and others.
There is a need to revamp SOP with the introduction of every unlock measures, however the State has not witnessed any change in the SOP, it said while expressing that it might have stemmed the steep rise in the number of positive cases in the State.
Further asserting that proportional rise in the number of death cases is not a positive sign, the foundation stated its feeling for a change in the treatment approach.
The State has introduced Unlock 2 but it should be relevant to the State and not merely aligned with the Unlock 5 laid out by the Centre, the foundation continued while expressing hope for genuine guidelines and efforts on the part of the State Government.
