One day seminar on standardization of Maram language held

The Maram Literature Society organised a one day seminar on 'standardization of orthography and speech of Maram language' at MRNBA Conference Hall, Senapati today.
K Raisong, president Maram Union and his colleagues, Bosco Kashung, president Maram Students Union (MKS) and colleagues, Kanga Regina, president Maram Women Union and colleagues, teachers and Church leaders attended the seminar.
The house discussed the development and standardization of the Maram langauge and the need to strictly follow the guidelines and instructions of the Maram Literature Society by writers, teachers, scholars and general public of Maram community in writing and communication, to maintain uniformity and consistency of the language.
J Joanna, research scholar of the Linguistic Department, University of Tezpur, presented a powerpoint on 'Language Planning and Language standardization' with reference to Maram.
The teachers commissioned by the DC Senapati to teach Maram language in primary and upper primary schools also presented their papers for discussion.
The urgency of getting approval of the Education Department and BOSEM for introduction of Maram language as a subject upto class X standard was also tabled and discussed.
The Maram Union president lauded the efforts of the writers and MKS in this direction and assured all possible resources to get the job done most expeditiously.
The house endorsed the proposal of J Joanna to bring out a standard Maram Dictionary and recommended the writers and MKS to bring out a bilingual dictionary of Maram and English at the earliest to meet immediate needs.
