Governor calls for free and fair election on Voters' Day

Governor of Manipur Vinod Kumar Duggal has appealed to the voters of the State to exercise their franchise responsibly to ensure free and fair election.
He was speaking as Chief Guest of the National Voters' Day organized by State Chief Electoral Officer at MFDC Auditorium, Palace Compound here today.
Governor further said that the citizens of India who are 18 years and above enjoy the adult franchise to elect representatives of their choice.
The authorities concerned should ensure free and fair election and uphold the rights of the voters.
Duggal also appealed to the voters to exercise their franchise fully in the coming Lok Sabha Election.
The women and youths should play important roles to strengthen the electoral democracy of the country.
Moreover, the young voters must know their own rights and take part in this democratic process without any hesitation, the Governor averred.

Attending as President of the function, Chief Secretary PC Lawmkunga said that everyone should join hands to conduct the elections in free and fair manner.
Many young people in the age group of 18 to 20 years are increasingly enrolled as new voters.
The State election authorities have conducted rationalization of polling stations in the State in view of gradual increase in the number of voters.
State Chief Electoral Officer O Nabakishore also appealed to the people to render utmost cooperation towards ensure free and fair elections in the State.
The dignitaries of the function also distributed Elector's Photo Identity Cards to the newly enrolled voters.
Students from various schools and colleges attended the observance.
Joining the rest of the country in celebrating the 4th National Voters day, District Election Office Chandel organized a function to mark the occasion at the conference hall of DRDA Chandel today.
Deputy Commissioner of Chandel Th Chitaranjan Singh, IAS; Superintendent of Police, Chandel E Priyokumar Singh, IPS, and SDO Chandel Shiva Killu Kumar Naidu, IAS, attended the function as Chief Guest, Functional President and Guest of Honour respectively.
Besides, several DLOs, leaders of civil society organizations, Youth Clubs, Students and political parties were present on the occasion.
After the welcome address delivered by Assistant Commissioner to DC Chandel DY Julie Anal, MCS, and the keynote address given by District Election Officer Shambhu, the message of the Chief Election Commissioner to the people of India was read out by the Deputy Commissioner.
It was followed by taking of the voters' oath, felicitation of Booth Level officers and distribution of prizes to the winners of the quiz competition conducted in connection with the observance on January 24 .
'Ethical Voting' which was the theme of the celebration, was discussed by the dignitaries on dais during their speeches.
They also gave away EPIC to newly enrolled voters.
In the quiz competition, team from United College, Lambung won the first position while both the second and the third prizes were secured by teams from JNV Chandel.
National Voters' Day was also celebrated under the aegis of District Election Officer, Thoubal at the conference hall of DC office, Thoubal with Deputy Commissioner of the district T.Ranjit Singh, IAS, as Chief Guest; Additional District Magistrate of Thoubal L.Nabakishhwar Singh,IAS, as President and Election officer Thoubal R.K.Sanatombi Devi, Thou bal College principal O.Chaoba Devi and District Youth Co-ordinator of Nehru Yuva Kendra Thoubal Y.Laskman Singh as Guests of Honour.
Apart from taking the pledge for fair election, the prizes of the district level quiz competition conducted on January 22 in connection with observance of National Voters' Day were also distributed among the winners.
The team of Ahongsangbam Prameshwori Devi and Khangemba Geetarani Devi of Waikhom Mani Girls' College, Thoubal won the first prize, the team of N.Krishnajit Singh and Y.Umeshwori Devi of Thoubal College won the 2nd prize while W.K.College Wangjing's team comprising Laishram Premananda Singh and L.Bilashini Devi had to contended with 3rd prize.
Meanwhile, All India Youth Federation (AIYF), Manipur State Council observed the National Voters' Day at Irawat Bhavan with Secretary of CPI, Manipur State Dr M Nara as Chief Guest and President of AIYF, MSC Th Sarat as President.
President of JD (U), Manipur State Unit M Tombi and differently abled person Jasobanta also attended the observance as Guests of Honour.
