'Laining Ngak Senba Numit' observed in State

Imphal, August 16, 2012:
Commemorating the day when the British granted independence to the Kingdom of Manipur to Maharaja Bodhachandra on the 29th day of Thawan (according to Meetei lunar calendar) in 1947, the "Laining Ngak Senba Numit" was observed at the sacred Kangla here today.
To mark the occasion, the historical flag of Manipur with the world map on it was hoisted at Uttra Shanglen, Kangla by Leishemba Sanajaoba, the titular king of Manipur at around 7:45 am today.
Later, traditional songs, dances and martial arts of the state were displayed.
It is said subsequent to granting of independence by the British restrictions on Puyas, Meetei Mayek and other indigenous customs and traditions were lifted, thus allowing practice and propagation according to one's desire.
Today's function was also attended by members of All India Kangla Pakhangba Temple Development Society, Malem Society for Yek Salai, UMO, Kabui Mother's Association, Kuki Mother's Association, Malem Kanba Lup, malem Nupi Khunnai, All Manipur Umanglai Assn, Kangla Inat Phambei and Inat Putin Neinarup.
