Imphal, December 14 2019:
Police foiled an attempt by CAF &PD Labour Welfare Association (CAF & PDLWA) members to storm the Chief Minister's Bungalow today evening.
The members of the labour association were demanding the release of two of its volunteers and a member of CAF&PD Family Committee, who were allegedly arrested by police today morning while staging sit-ins at Keishampat Leimajam Leikai.
The three arrested persons include Loukrakpam Jiten Singh of Nambol Leimapokpam, Hijam Kavita Devi of Naoremthong Samusang and Laishram Hemabati Devi.
According to the members of the association, a sit-in-protest was organised in the morning condemning the authorities concerned for allegedly preventing the association members, who worked as labourers at FCI Godown, Sangaiprou, from entering the godown on December 3.The members of the association who tried to storm the CM Bungalow conveyed that around 80 of their members who worked as labourers in the Sangaiprou's FCI Godown have been barred from entering the premise after the labourers raised their voices against some wrong doings by NR Mathai Enterprises - the agency which takes the contract work of the said FCI Godown.
They claimed that NR Mathai Enterprises has been activating the EPF Account of a deceased labour for sixteen months and taking its benefits, apart from giving low wages to the labourers of Jiribam FCI Godown.
Demanding authority concerned to blacklist NR Mathai Enterprises, the CAF&PDLWA members went on to decry that police who arrived at Keishampat Leimajam Leikai during the sit-in-protest this morning, had stopped the protest on the charge that no DC permission had been taken, before arresting the three members.
The association also termed the act of the police as an attempt to divert the issue of FCI Godown, Sangaiprou, alleging that this will only add fuel to the fire.
