IMC bulldozes underground power cable

The 11 KV underground power cable carried underneath the double pole located near PC Jain in Thangal Bazaar has been badly damaged by the excavators used by Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) in removing the garbages piled up along the foot of the double pole.
With the underground power cable damaged, transmission of power through the double pole for distribution in areas like Khuyathong, Majorkhul, MG Avenue and the MLA quarters located to the east of Kangla Park, has affected.
Around 1800-2000 consumers living along these areas are experiencing black out on account of the carelessness of IMC.
Talking to Hueiyen Lanpao, some of the shopkeepers informed that an excavator of IMC landed in the area around 6:30 am morning to remove the garbages piled up on the foot of the double pole.
In the act, the 11 KV underground power cable was totally damaged by the excavator.
Following the damage, a complaint was made to the Electricity Department and their staffs arrived to mend the damaged power cable around 11 am.
However, the damaged has not been mended completely and officials of Electricity Department have informed that power supply would not be available to the consumers falling under the jurisdiction of the double pole.
In connection with the incident, T Ibochouba, EE, Electricity Department told Hueiyen Lanpao that since the 11 KV underground power cable of the double pole has been damaged and the repairing work would take some time, supply of electricity to the consumers along Khuyathong road, Majorkhul, MG Avenue and the MLA quarters would remain affected.
The EE further informed that it has been not the first time that the underground power cable at this particular area has been damaged.
There have been numerous occasions when the cable line was damaged due to carelessness of the public and other authorities.
He also appealed to all the local residents not to dump garbages near the foot of the double pole or near the transformers installed at MG Avenue and Family Welfare office.
