Guv elated with maiden visit to 'black out' Ukhrul

Governor Dr.Ashwani Kumar on Wednesday made a maiden visit to the hill areas of the State ever since taking charge of the post and conducted inspection of the prevailing conditions of the District Hospital.
Interestingly, unlike the visit of other dignitaries during which the denizens of Ukhrul town could enjoy uninterrupted power supply throughout the day, there was no electricity this time, even during the scheduled load shedding period.
On Wednesday afternoon, accompanied by First Lady Chandan Kumar, Dr Ashwani, who is also in charge of Governor of Nagaland, landed at Ukhrul and was elated with the beauty of the hills of Manipur.
"I am very happy to visit the hill areas, especially Ukhrul�with its tradition and culture," he said.
He also expressed his delight to see the flowers, vegetation and beautiful scenery of Ukhrul.

Today's visit to Ukhrul is his first to the hill districts after taking over an additional charge of Manipur.
The Governor's entourage also included Deputy Speaker M.K.Preshow Shimray and Parliamentary Secretary Victor Keishing.
Dr.Kumar inspected the ongoing construction of the new 50-bedded district hospital at Naga Gate, Hungpung before visiting the patients and interacting with doctors and staff at Ukhrul district Hospital.
An official of MANIDCO, the implementing agency of the Centrally sponsored new 50-bedded district hospital at Naga Gate, was ignorant of the work and failed to give positive answer to Governor's queries.
Ukhrul DC Dr.Shailesh Kumar Chourasia came to the rescue and briefed the visiting dignitaries on the under-construction hospital, which is being undertaken through the DoNER Ministry.
He visited the categorized wards of Ukhrul district hospital and enquired on the nature of sicknesses of patients, while later holding a 30-minute interaction with doctors, nurses and staff.

Raikhan also submitted a representation to the visiting governor,who was also apprised of persistent problems in the hospital by staff and nurses.
At about 5pm, Dr.Ashwani rushed to district Guest House and held an alternate meeting with District Congress Committee and local bodies, which also submitted representations on pertinent issues facing the district.
In the press conference, Dr.Ashwani expressed his contentment of making a maiden visit the hill areas of Manipur and looks forward to undertake tour to other districts in near future.
He said Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh was also quite elated on learning his visit to Ukhrul and conveyed his encouragement to make more visit to hill areas.
The Governor was reported to have an audience with Tangkhul frontal organisations at district guest house, but it did not take place.
On a query, he replied that he had no knowledge why the meeting with the organisations was aborted.
Dr.Ashwani is also not perturbed by the fact that he is the governor of two conflicting state of Nagaland.
"I am just happy�am a temporary Governor of Manipur," he replied on being asked.
On Thursday morning, he will visit Jessami and heads for Phek district headquarters in the afternoon.
While Deputy Speaker M.K.Preshow Shimray would accompany him till Jessami, Parliamentary Secretary Victor Keishing will be leaving for Kamjong for a different programme.
