Chandel, September 11 2013:
A combined team of Chandel Naga People's Organization (CNPO); Naga Chief Association, Chandel (NCAC) and Naga Women Union, Chandel (NWUC) has inspected the Chandel District Hospital to collect first hand information following various complaints received from general public against the hospital authority of misusing hospital medicines
and drugs.
A joint statement of the inspection team has termed the present condition of the district Hospital as 'Pathetic' and expressed shocked as the lone medical health care institution has been left uncared and unattended by the department concerned for the last many years despite submission of representations and memorandums repeatedly in the past.
The inspection team disclosed to the media that out of the 24 sanctioned posts of doctors in the district Hospital, there are only 7 allopathic doctors, 2 Ayush and 5 Dental Doctors are in place and none of them are specialist.
The inspection team also came to know that two PG doctors were asked to join the District Hospital following a Govt order issued in July, but there has been report of the doctors joining the hospital till date.
Moreover, out of 24 sanctioned posts for nurses, only 19 of them are there and out of 29 sanctioned posts of Attendants, 23 are in existence.
Among them again, only 7 attendants are attending to their duties while very few nurses come to attend to their duties at the hospital on regular basis.
The inspection team also came across that there is no Quarters for Doctors and Nurses.
As a result, few doctors and Nurses are staying on rented houses.
The inspection team is learnt to have apprised the Chief Medical Officer, Chandel to take up necessary action to provide necessary quarters to the Doctors and nurses.
On top of this, the lone district hospital lacks water supply, there is no emergency and casualty room, no spirit, betadine, no cotton, IV sets and needles, not speak of diet supply.
The hospital also has no newspapers and telecommunication services installed.
The supply of medicines and all essentials items to the District Hospital has failed due to failure on the part of CMO to make indent of the same, the inspection team has alleged.
Taking serious note of the matter, the joint team is said to have given an ultimatum of two weeks' time to the CMO Chandel for making available all the said items.
