A run christened 'Run for the Nation' was organised in connection with the celebration of the 150th birth anniversary celebration of Swami Vivekananda today.
The event was flagged off from THAU ground by Thangmeiband AC MLA Kh Joykishan.
Around 250 persons who are at the age group of 14 to 40 years took part in the run, which was organised by the State Level Organising Committee of Swami Vivekananda 150th Birth Anniversary Celebrations.
Organising Committee Co-ordinator Salam Rupachandra said that the run was held as part of the year-long 150th birth anniversary celebration of Swami Vivekananda that kick started on January 12, 2013 .
The run ended at the starting point after passing through Khoyathong, North AOC, Chingmeirong and Lilashing Khongnangkhong.
Rupachandra said that the main objective of the run was to remind their responsibilities to youths.
On this day in 1893, Swami Vivekananda introduced Bharat (India) to the world as a country which had rich culture and tradition through his speech delivered at World Parliament of Religion held at Chicago, Rupachandra said.
To mark the day, 3 km runs were organised across the country, he added.
In a function held after the run, MLA Joykishan was the chief guest.
Former Chairperson of Manipur State Commission for Women, Dr Ch Jamini and former Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University, Prof H Tombi were the guest of honour and president respectively.
