Imphal, September 11 2013:
Taking serious note of some surrenderees thrashing a police personnel at District Hospital, Churachandpur yesterday, Trinamool Congress MLA Kh Joykisan has demanded appropriate action against such rogue elements.
Speaking to newspersons at the Hotel Excellency office of Manipur pradesh Trinamool Congress today, the Thangmeiband AC legislator vehemently condemning the incident opined that cadres of armed outfits bound by suspension of operation agreement going on the rampage and assaulting the police personnel on duty at the district hospital deserved to be pulled up for punitive action.
Recounting Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh's assertion at the latest surrender ceremony (September 9) that cadres of SoO signatories found indulging in extortion or any other unlawful activities would not be tolerated, Joykisan said yesterday's incident of the surrendered cadres barging into the hospital campus and assaulting the cops in full public view, including presence of the Health Minister and other MLAs/VIPs do not merit condonation in any form.
Noting that State security force personnel had been performing their duties under challenging situation here in the State as well as highlighting that Manipur police audaciously foiled NSCN (IM) general secretary Th Muivah's attempt to enter Manipur some years back, the MLA suggested that the Government take all possible measures to encourage the police personnel perform their task diligently.
Construing that the Churachandpur incident constrains one to assume whether SoO agreements amount to providing license to indulge in criminal acts, he asserted that numerous reports of cadres covered by SoO truces indulging in unlawful activities, such as extortion and harassing of civilians would be highlighted at the floor of the parliament through the party's national leaders.
