Legal Service day cum one day Legal Awareness Programmes held

Chandel observed Legal Services Day with an aware-ness programme at Japhou Bazar Indoor stadium today.
Chief Judicial Magistrate/Civil Judge Divn W Tonen Meitei who is also a secretary of the District Legal Services Authority presided over the function.
Chandel District Bar Association president Rt Rebirthson, advocate, Maha Area Chiefs' Association president Sng Lumdil and NSUC president Sr Joningam were the guests of honour of the function.
Speaking at the occasion, CJM W Tonen said any woman, either ST/SC, rape victim or any victim and families whose annual income is upto Rs 1 lakh can secure the benefit of free legal aid through Manipur Legal Services Authority Act 1987 as well as Para Legal Volunteers (PLV) .
Manipur Legal Services Authority Act 1987 came into practice from November 9, 1995 after it was amended in 1994 .

The Magistrate further highlighted the principles of National Lok Adalat and its procedure during his speech.
Chandel District Bar Association president RT Rebirthson later spoke on the topic 'Life and Liberty Under the Constitution of India and its Value' .
The observation, organized jointly by District Legal Services Authority Chandel, Para Legal Volunteers and Chandel District Bar Association, was attended by about 150 people including student leaders, chiefs and Chandel police personnel.
Meanwhile, District Legal Service Authority, Imphal East, Jiribam sub-division also organised 'Observance of National Legal Services Day cum one day Legal Awareness Programme on Lok Adalat, Right to Information Act and Arrest and Detention' today at the auditorium of Jiribam Government Higher Secondary School.
The programme was graced by S Maniton Singh, general secretary, Senior Citizens Society, Jiribam and Lamkholal Kipgen, Civil Judge, Jr division, Jiribam as chief guest and president respectively.
Advocate I Inaobi Devi delivered the welcome cum keynote address of today's function.
Resource persons advocate KB Roy, advocate L Romen Singh and advocate S Gopendra Singh spoke on the topic "Right to Information", "Lok Adalat" and "Arrest and Detention" respectively.
Invitee H Rajenkumar Singh, lecturer, Jiribam Government Higher Secondary School, elaborated on the objectives behind the observation.
The programme was also attended by members of various civil society organisations, meira paibis and police personnel.
